What
is the Field
Intelligence Group (FIG)?
- a significant component of each field office that collects and
analyzes intelligence
- the Newark FIG is made up of Intelligence Analysts, Financial
Analysts, Special Agents, and Language Analysts
- the FIG produces Intelligence Assessments, Intelligence
Bulletins, Intelligence Information Reports, and Special Event
Support/Joint Agency Products, many of these products are available on
the InfraGard web site
- the FIG briefs law enforcement and the intelligence
community on significant trends or specific topics
What is intelligence?
- information needed for an individual or organization to make a
decision
- the FIG wants intelligence that has a reasonable nexus to
criminal, foreign intelligence, and/or terrorist activities
What is cyber
intelligence?
- the who, what, where, when, why, and how with respect to computer
intrusions and cyber crime
- identities of computer hackers and criminals, including nics and
IP addresses
- identification of organized hacker or criminal groups
- methods by which they are or can conceal their communications
or activities
- tradecraft and technology
What are the
responsibilities
of the cyber squad in the Newark Division?
- the cyber squad investigates crimes and collects intelligence
- the following illegal activities are within its responsibilities:
- intrusions into computers and networks
- the creation and dissemination of malicious code
- the online sexual exploitation of children
- theft of intellectual property rights such as DVD and CD
piracy, theft of trade secrets, and trademark infringement
- fraud committed through the use of the Internet
